HyperSpeech Transfer Protocol (HSTP)

IBM India has developed a new technology – HyperSpeech Transfer Protocol (HSTP) – that will enable users to ‘talk’ to the web. Similar to the hyperlink in regular web pages, a ‘hyperspeech’ will link to voice applications and you can navigate the web using voice instead of a mouse click. This could be a game changing technology just because this means that Internet could be accessed by non visual interfaces.

Google isn’t the only company toying with the idea of a secure operating system based around a web browser. Back in February, researches at Microsoft revealed details about Gazelle. Gazelle claims to be “a multi-principal OS construction of a secure web browser. Gazelle’s Browser Kernel exclusively provides cross-principal protection and fair sharing of all system resources.”

Like Chrome OS, which is built on top of Linux, Gazelle isn’t really a new operating system. Rather it is a layer that extends the browser’s security model down into the operating system level. Key to system is the idea of a “principal”, which in this case is the triple of protocol, domain-name, and port. Each combination is isolated from any other combination at the process level.

Bringing people together to save energy and money

Microsoft has launched Microsoft Hohm, an online home energy monitoring tool, available at, which will enable consumers in US to gauge their usage and reduce consumption.

According to Microsoft, Hohm provides suggestions for energy conservation based on home energy input data and feedback contributed by users. The tool uses advanced analytics licensed from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the US Department of Energy.

Twitter Expanding Executive Team, Looking for CFO :-)

Twitter has hired Alexander Macgillivray, Google’s associate general counsel for Product and IP, as their new General Counsel, we’ve confirmed. Macgillivray is still an employee of Google, and his start date at Twitter has not yet been determined.
